Why it matters

Volunteering and leadership go together

President's Volunteer Service Award (PVSA) — currently paused

The federal PVSA program has been temporarily paused by AmeriCorps (effective May 27, 2025), and new awards are not being issued anywhere in the country. VT Seva is not able to grant PVSA awards during this pause. Everything else continues fully — our volunteering, mentorship, and leadership programs are ongoing, and we keep recognizing youth with VT Seva certificates and volunteer-hour tracking. We'll resume PVSA recognition once the federal program reopens. Check program status →

Success stories

From volunteer to leader

Summer Intern 2025

Samhita Bandaru

Samhita joined VT Seva's Summer Internship thinking she would teach children at Allampally and Nethra Vidyalaya. From organizing classroom activities and teaching English to playing games after school, she developed leadership skills while witnessing the courage and selflessness of the children she served.

“I walked into this internship thinking I would teach them, but they taught me more than I could have ever taught them. Their joy, courage, and selflessness are lessons I will carry for life.”
Youth club in action

Detroit Youth Club

The Detroit Youth Board organized senior-center bonfires, environmental cleanups, and community events throughout 2024 — from serving seniors at Manoogian Senior Center to leading Adopt-a-Road cleanups, packing 9,744 lbs of food at Forgotten Harvest, supporting 300+ families with back-to-school giveaways, and raising $7,000+ at their annual walkathon for Angels of Hope.

“Residents mentioned how happy they were to see VT Seva come back for every bonfire — and when the event neared its end, they didn't want to leave.”

★★★★★

I started as a shy volunteer and became a team leader organizing events for 100+ people. This experience changed my life.
